Open-Circuit-Current

The open-circuit current is a term from electrical engineering and describes the electrical current that flows through a transformer, for example, when it is connected to the nominal voltage but is not loaded by the consumer. Due to the open-circuit current, the power is mainly lost as heat losses. Therefore, it makes sense to keep open-circuit losses as low as possible and disconnect the electrical device from the mains so that the open-circuit current is switched off.
