Our UL approvals

In order to be able to use transformers or other electrotechnical components in the USA and Canada, a corresponding UL / CSA approval is usually necessary.

In order to be able to use transformers or other electrotechnical components in the USA and Canada, a corresponding UL/CSA approval is usually necessary. Often it is simply searched for a corresponding logo on the product and found it to be suitable. This can lead to significant commissioning problems in the US and Canada.

The following explains our possible approvals for transformers and control cabinets:

Construction only
Category Code XORU2/XORU8

This is the most cost-effective approval. There is no separate standard for this. During the test, it is only checked with a few samples from the desired series whether the clearances and creepage distances are complied with. Further electrical tests will not take place. If a transformer with this approval is used, further tests according to the UL are mandatory.

ELECTRICAL INSULATION SYSTEM
Standard: UL1446/Category Code OBJY2/OBJY8

This approval is required as the basis for a full authorization. Here all materials installed in the transformers are checked for chemical compatibility under the influence of temperature in a long-term test. As a result, you get an approval for a corresponding insulation system in relation to a temperature class.

FULL APPROVAL
Standard: UL5085/Category Code XPTQ2/XPTQ8

With this approval, all desired transformers are tested for their electrical values, heating and the material used. Transformers that have this approval can be installed in control cabinets or other systems without any further systems. There are no additional UL tests required here.

APPROVAL FOR SWITCHGEARS
Standard: UL508A/Category Code NITW7/NITW8

This approval applies to enclosures and control cabinets for the US or Canadian market. All materials used must be approved accordingly. In addition, there are the use of UL strands, compliance with required clearances and creepage distances and various labelling specifications. If the control cabinet meets all requirements, it will be provided with an approval sticker and serial number.
