GLOSSARY

Short-circuit voltage

The short-circuit voltage is the voltage that must be applied to the input winding (primary side) of a transformer so that the rated current flows when the output winding (secondary side) is short-circuited.

It is usually specified as a percentage of the rated input voltage. A value of 6 %, for example, means that 6 % of the rated voltage is sufficient to achieve the rated current in the event of a short circuit.

The short-circuit voltage is a measure of the internal resistances and leakage inductances of the transformer and significantly influences its behavior under load and in the event of a short circuit.
