O transformador de segurança é um transformador para a alimentação de circuitos SELV. Os transformadores de segurança podem ser utilizados para cumprir a medida de proteção “segurança extra-baixa tensão”. Os transformadores de segurança são concebidos para alimentar um dispositivo ou circuitos de distribuição com tensões até 50 V AC ou tensão DC alisada até 120 V (em vazio e em carga), de modo a evitar tensões de contacto inadmissivelmente elevadas e perigosas em caso de avaria.
